For a prosperous future for Hachioji

Thank you for visiting the Hachioji Shodo kai (Association)  website.

I am Yufu Suganuma, president of the Hachioji Shodo kai and the Kofu-kai.

I have been fascinated by the world of calligraphy since I was a child, and through calligraphy I have learned to refine myself and the preciousness of connecting with others. Even now, after more than 40 years of teaching in Hachioji, I believe that the time spent focusing on each stroke of the brush profoundly develops people, regardless of age.

Calligraphy is not simply about the pursuit of beautiful characters; it is a cultural art that cultivates concentration, perseverance, and a rich sensibility. At the Hachioji Shodo kai, we strive to provide instruction tailored to each individual's individuality and stage of development.

We hope to provide a space where everyone, from those holding a brush for the first time to those striving for greater heights, can experience the joy and depth of writing.

Preserving the calligraphy culture rooted in the local community is also one of our important missions. It gives us great joy to see children, the leaders of the future, become familiar with traditional Japanese culture and develop rich sensibilities through calligraphy.

We will do our best to help you so that the quiet time you spend with calligraphy will be fruitful in your lives.

With your support, the Hachioji shodo kai will continue to work hard to spread and develop calligraphy culture.

We look forward to your continued support.

We also accept inquiries in English and French.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
